what a wonderful dream comes true with our journey to Scotland.
This is something we have always been planning but we could never find an opportunity to make it real.
Starting a new life in UK would obviously encourage us to plan this trip ahead so immediately.
Likewise, our other trip plans, this one also was planned wisely and many destinations were tried to be included in a 5 days short stay. However, any single visit to Scotland would never enough to explore its endless natural beauty and countless castles!
and one other thing that we haven’t taken into consideration was the traffic on roads when we were heading to Loch Lomond Park from Edinburgh and we were driving between the routes to Oban, Fort William and Glencoe…
We were there in the last days of July and who could ever think everyone in Britain and Europe planned their visit to Scotland this time of year and everywhere was full of with moving caravans:)
So we were a bit struggling to skip the queues on the roads as well as on the service areas.
What included in our route?
one night stay in Edinburgh and 4 night stay at Loch Lomond National Park.
I am just like hearing your voices saying that ‘you stayed at just two destinations’:)
yes we did, because the key point is visiting both north-west (Fort William and Glencoe-Skyfall movie scenery) and south-west (Oban Town) while we were enjoying our stay at beautiful modern Loch Lomond lodges.
Our trip started in Edinburgh, we spent only one night there in order not to miss our beautiful lodge in Loch Lomond but I wish we could have spent more than one night in Edinburgh. Edinburgh seems like a small city with only its 500 thousand people mostly dominated by students. Yet, it has a lot to discover and you could simply enjoy the city by walking and for sure its cleanliness, its history, people’s hospitality and its very well kept structure which is like a village popping out from a fairytale book would enough to amaze you! Let me first start by sharing our hotel pictures. It mainly shocked us with its rooms which are definitely beautiful than its pictures on website!
Here are few photos from Murrayfield Hotel (https://themurrayfieldhotel.co.uk/). These are from our rooms and each room has its own design. The service, the restaurant and Scottish food are amazing! Do not tell this anyone but to be very honest with you Scottish style is better than English one when it comes to food, service, hospitality and they are mostly chatty people:))) This hotel is only few miles away from high street and you can easily walk or get on a bus straight away to reach high street!
By the way before sharing further about our journey, once you would like to plan a trip to Scotland this site simply includes everything you need! If you want it to be an occasional trip just check this site and decide whether you would like to have a castle discovery trip or a journey to national parks or discover off the beaten destinations!
enjoying a drink at night, exploring the Edinburgh Castle and have a look into beautiful bookstores are just a few things that we could have done in one day.
Here is the entrance of CopperBlossom restaurant you definitely need to have it on your bucket list. Check out their website for more pictures, you would definitely understand what I mean 😉
They are one of the shocking experience we have got in Edinburgh with their interior design, lovely one-off cocktails and chatty waitress!
OK, I think that’s enough up to now.. you are waiting for details of Edinburgh Castle impatiently.
let’s walk together all the way through the castle and let me leave you alone with the pictures of this massive castle!
Here is a view from Victoria Street…while we were climbing to castle, if the guy standing at the entrance of a narrow corridor hadn’t taken our attention to this beautiful street, we might have skipped this view! It is just further steps down but you wouldn’t miss the narrow corridor heading to that street. Many thanks to that boy!
It is now time to talk about Loch Lomond National Park which is the most appropriate place to stay if you do not wish to change places and wish to visit Oban and Fort William Towns as well as Glencoe where Skyfall movie (James Bond) takes place:)
Nowadays I am addicted to Airbnb for a real local experience rather than booking any hotel.
so Airbnb headed us to these beautiful Cameron House lodges which belong to Cameron House Hotel where you can benefit from spa, swimming and restaurant facilities.
of course main building of the hotel is a castle you wouldn’t expect any other option in Scotland;)
Most of the lodges have their owners who rent them on Airbnb. We as 4 people and a baby girl stayed here and found easily what we have needed and enjoyed the comfort.
The most popular attraction you would definitely try here is lake tour. Loch Lomond is very popular with its monster and it is thought to be outside every night. You might assume this is only a horror story yet even if it is a story, anytime you almost feel like monsters are hidden in this place because of its deep dark at nights and the scary infrastructure. This is why we are here, isn’t it? 🙂
This is exactly what we were looking for in Scotland..everyone tells us about its natural fame and we noticed this as we start our journey in Edinborough but we were expecting some more massive green lands and we found this out right here!
Scotland Part II
so the second part of our journey continues with the link above.
OBAN Town, Mc Caig’s Tower, Waterfront Sea Restaurant where you wouldn’t skip Oban without a seafood experience, Fort William Town, Cable Car to Ben Nevis Mountain, Glencoe (where we had got the most stunning natural scenery and Skyfall movie (James Bond) was shot) last but not least another special local stop to enjoy truly delicious Angus Beef in Scotland. On our way back to home, another main attraction that we shouldn’t miss is surely Whisky Distillery (Auchentoshan Distillery) experience. I am going to tell you more about all!
